Knights of Rock

Knights of Rock takes the Dance Dance Revolution style of game play - where you have to hit buttons in time to the music - throws it up in the air, bashes it around a bit and stabs it a few times. This violent treatment has obviously done no serious harm because the game that comes out the other end is vastly better than the majority of the Dance Dance clones you can find on the web.

Perhaps the biggest innovation is that the game turns the rhythm style game play into a story. Your protagonist - a noble Knight - does not simply remain on the same spot (as is the case with most rhythm games of this type) while you attempt to press the arrow keys in synch with the visual and musical cues. Instead, he bounds around, side-scroller style, fighting off enemies and leaping over obstacles.

If you press a key at precisely the right time, our hero knight might perform a successful attack on an enemy soldier or execute a perfect jump over a rock. Failing to get your timing right may result in our hero being injured. You can only make a handful of mistakes before your life-force bar shrinks to zero, so succeeding at this games requires you to focus closely on the rhythm of the music and the visual cues.
